In the heart of NSW, Australia, Alkane Resources faced early-stage erosion and corrosion in their Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) tanks at the Tomingley Gold Operation—just under two years into service. To resolve the issue and extend the asset life of these critical processing tanks, the team turned to ShieldCrete’s ShieldPoly® F-15, a pure polyurea coating system built for extreme durability.

Why Use Polyurea for CIL Tanks?

Polyurea coatings have rapidly become the gold standard for CIL tank protection, thanks to their:

  • Extreme abrasion resistance

  • High chemical and corrosion resistance

  • Seamless application on complex internal structures (like baffles and joints)

  • Reliable performance under continuous immersion

At Tomingley, ShieldPoly® F-15 was applied at 3–4mm on walls and 4mm on floors, delivering a durable barrier that significantly reduced downtime and asset degradation.

Project Highlights:

Client: Alkane Resources – Tomingley Gold | Industry: Mining & Mineral Processing | Location: New South Wales, Australia | Applicator: Protector Coatings | Coating System: ShieldPoly® F-15 Polyurea | Project Goal: Corrosion, abrasion, and chemical protection | Completion: 2015–2016

Tanks were refurbished one at a time, allowing 5 out of 6 tanks to remain online throughout the coating process. Thanks to ShieldCrete’s flexible system and advanced formulation, each tank was cleaned, coated, and returned to service within 7 days.

What Sets ShieldCrete® Apart

Not all polyureas are created equal. Our formulations are based on 30+ years of experience from chemists and applicators worldwide. The etch primer used in this case illustrates our system’s adaptability to on-site constraints and environmental conditions.
